THE STORY

Instructress - Kate O'Sullivan

After the birth of her second daughter, Kate resigned from her job to be a stay at home mum but wanted to do something to keep her mind active. So, with over 30 years experience as a competitor in the sport, she decided to pursue her interest in teaching Physical Culture and opened Hunters Hill Physi.

Kate started “physi” as a three year old and progressed through each age group before joining the “Extended Ladies” section in 2009.  Having reached the NSW State Grand Final on numerous occasions, Kate says, “physi is brilliant (low-impact) exercise, but I still really enjoy the excitement and adrenalin that performing in front of an audience brings.  Apart from the physical benefits, physi has made me disciplined, given me confidence and taught me about the importance of teamwork and commitment.  I’ve also met many wonderful people through physi, and formed some lifelong friendships.   Now as a teacher, I get a huge buzz out of seeing my girls and ladies perform and I am extremely proud of each and every one of them, regardless of results.  I feel priviliged to be able to put something back into a sport that has given me so much over the years".

In 2010, Kate reached the NSW State Grand Final and placed 3rd.

Instructress - Elise Bryan

Physi has always played a large part in Elise’s life.  Since beginning as a 3 year old, Elise’s love of Physi has evolved into great success and has also been instrumental in forming many friendships along the way. Elise, a member of the Hunters Hill Open Seniors, has this year taken on an official teaching role for the 13’s & 14s and 15's & 16’s age groups.

Elise has recently graduated from Macquarie University with a Bachelor of Human Resource Management and has begun working full time.  “I am looking forward to the challenge of teaching the 13’s – 16’s group and watching the girls learn and grow. I feel a great sense of satisfaction and fulfilment that I am able to be part of this process. Kate has given me a wonderful opportunity to give something back to physi; a sport that I thoroughly enjoy."

In 2007, in recognition of her commitment to the Hunters Hill Club, Elise was presented with the prestigious Club Legend Award. In 2008, Elise placed 5th in the Intermediate Senior section at the Edith Parsons State Grand Final and in 2009 and 2010, she reached the State Grand Final in the elite "Open Senior" section.

Assistant Instructress - Emma Davey

Emma began physi when she was two and continued until she was 15 to focus on other sports. However, as the saying goes, "once a physi girl, always a physi girl" so in 2009 she returned to the sport and became a member of the Hunters Hill Club.

Emma currently teaches the 3 to 5 years and is also a mentor to other junior girls within the club.   “I love physi because everyone can do it. Physi is a challenge every time you practice and when you compete its so exciting. Teaching the girls is so much fun because you see their confidence and coordination improve and their true personalities come out.”

Emma is at university studying to be an early childhood and primary school teacher. She also holds her National "A" umpires badge (netball) and is working towards achieving her goal of becoming a AA umpire.
However, she spends most of her time being active, socialising and working. “That’s a reason why I love physi, because it is such a social environment but also really mentally and physically challenging. Hunters Hill is a wonderful club, full of wonderful people and it’s lovely to be a part of it”.

In 2010, Emma reached the NSW State Grand Final and placed 6th.
